In your editorial "Progress on Nassau refunds" [Aug. 20], Newsday gives an example in which Nassau County loses only $300 on a $2,000 real estate tax refund -- which equates to only a 15 percent loss.
How can Newsday write that a tax payment of $1,700, paid to the county for the county's operations, be used to offset the refund? If this were true, I believe that County Executive Edward Mangano would be extremely happy.
