Florida Gov. Rick Scott presides over a state that allows citizens to carry concealed weapons and that has a stand-your-ground law, which states that a person may use force in self-defense when there is reasonable belief of a threat, without an obligation to retreat first.

Yet, the Republican National Convention in Tampa will ban people from bringing guns to the festivities ["Condoleezza Rice floated as Romney's top VP pick," News, July 13.]

Why? Are they concerned that, contrary to the claims by the National Rifle Association, guns really do kill people? And are they are afraid that someone may attempt to cause trouble at the convention?
