Your article on the Garden City Bird Sanctuary was an excellent tribute to what volunteers can accomplish ["Volunteer nation: Sump to sanctuary," LI Life, July 28]. However, I believe that the Rev. Edward Everett Hale would have been disappointed that his quote, introducing the article, was not completed.
Here is the complete quote: "I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still, I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. What I can do, I should do, and what I should do, by the grace of God, I will do."
