A writer wants to blame people for vandalism because they leave their cars out on the street ["Vehicles safer inside garages," IMHO, March 26]. What's wrong with this statement? The parents of these vandals are more to blame. You should be able to leave your cars anywhere and not worry about vandalism.

This generation wants to blame everything on everyone else instead of taking responsibility. In past years, you could leave your homes and cars unlocked and not worry. Neighbors looked out for each other.

Police were able to manage the hordes of teenagers without being concerned about being sued or fired. You were more apt, in the past, to get in trouble with your parents if an officer told you to move along or go home.

Parents need to be more involved with their children and teach them there are consequences for their actions.
