With all the budget problems, unemployment and people on welfare, we hear the IRS is spending $49 million on conferences and parties ["IRS official sorry for lavish spending," News, June 7].

Who is watching the store? Since when is a government agency allowed to throw $4.1-million parties? Our government is operating on an austerity budget, which removes many programs from the poor and elderly, but it can find money for partying?

The IRS official who organized the lavish party said the agency used poor judgment. Being that our tax dollars paid for these lavish parties, we all should have been invited!
