Your recent article about Canon USA and other companies states that they choose to stay on Long Island for emotional, rather than business reasons ["Still here," Business, Feb. 26]. In particular, Seymour Liebman of Canon cites the company's concern about losing the employees who live here.
Yet, in the same article, it's stated that Canon alone received $100 million in state and other government subsidies. It's clear that these companies stay here because state and local officials have extended very attractive financial incentives that go beyond the stated personal reasons.
