Creating laws to control outdoor crowds in East Hampton will only hurt businesses and annoy residents ["Outdoor crowds bill to be revised," News, May 7].

People go on vacation to the Hamptons; they want to be outside enjoying themselves at night with friends. Businesses love big crowds because it helps them sell inventory. Requiring permits and enforcing fines up to $10,000 or even two weeks in jail is absurd.

"Several of the two dozen speakers said the real problem is that the town does not enforce its existing laws," your story reported. I couldn't agree more. Before proposing new laws, stand behind the old ones.
