Letter: Cuomo should credit Giuliani

Citing the recent proliferation of topless women prowling Times Square for tips, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said it "is starting to remind me of the bad old Times Square," and "it must be stopped" ["Guv: Rein in topless grifters," News, Aug. 20].
He recalled that 42nd Street was once a symbol of degradation in New York and that he is old enough to remember the peep shows, sex shops and drug dealing of the 1970s and 80s. The governor called the cleanup a great success and a symbol of the renaissance of New York City.
Am I the only Newsday reader who thought it very odd that Cuomo gave absolutely no credit to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was behind the movement to transform the city after the dismal Dinkins administration? The bad old times Cuomo spoke about were before 1993, after which Giuliani took office and made the city a place for tourists and families to enjoy once again.
