Letter: Skelos non-defense is puzzling

So former State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son Adam were found guilty of all eight counts on which they were indicted [“Guilty”, News, Dec. 12.
As a powerful senator and a leader in the Republican Party, Skelos pretty much appeared to go down without a fight. Neither defendant testified. This prompts me to ask, why? Did Dean Skelos refuse to take the stand to avoid stirring up an even larger hornet’s nest? Is it possible that he has more skeletons in his closet that he’s happy to leave alone?
It seems that the Skelos defendants were too willing to be done with this, rather than battle to protect the senator’s career and legacy.
