Letter: Deportation focus on student wrong

Regarding "Why the special treatment?" [Letters, Oct. 13], I find it incredible at a time when this country is faced with so much violence and possible security problems that immigration officials would waste valuable time trying to deport decent people who are proven assets to our society.
Here you have a young college girl and her mother who are in our country for nearly 18 years. Nadia Habib has been an outstanding student, now attending Stony Brook University. She has siblings who were born here. Immigration wants to take Nazmin Habib away from her children and return her to Bangladesh.
I would suggest that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement expend its energy deporting people who are a detriment to this country.
