The entertainment industry has lost another icon ["Phyllis Diller embraced the ugly," Opinion, Aug 22]. The death of Phyllis Diller at the age of 95 is indeed a sad loss.

In a career that spanned nearly 60 years, she made millions of people laugh. She was a perennial part of Bob Hope's USO shows, and the troops enjoyed her corny escapades. On "The Dean Martin Show" in the '70s, she elicited laughter from entertainers and the audience. We are all better off for her having brought so much hilarity to our lives.
