Letter: Disappointed to lose the LI Philharmonic
As the father of a professional musician and a supporter of classical music, I am saddened and disappointed that one of the nation’s most affluent suburbs cannot find the funds to allow the Long Island Philharmonic Orchestra to continue playing [“Farewell to a once-bright local gem,” Opinion, Feb. 12].
We spend hundreds of dollars to attend sporting events or rock or pop concerts, yet we as a community will not support the genius of classical music. Our corporate leaders spend millions of advertising dollars a year, but apparently do not believe that the audiences at classical concerts are worthy target markets for their products and services.
With the loss of classical music on Long Island, we lose a part of our humanity.
