Letter: Dissolve LIPA for better service

I strongly disagree with the Long Island Association's resolution, spearheaded by president Kevin Law, which rejects Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's call to privatize the Long Island Power Authority ["LI businesses: Give PSEG a try," News, March 21].
Instead, Law, a past LIPA president, proposes an expanded role for PSEG of New Jersey, including storm-related restoration. Transferring the fundamental basic utility function would make LIPA even more inconsequential.
Also, awarding a supplementary contract to PSEG for the additional scope of a major basic utility function seems to be contractually illegal and unfair to the two unsuccessful bidders -- National Grid and Consolidated Edison.
What is needed is the total dissolution of LIPA to remove the vestiges of years of blatant betrayal of its Long Island customers.
