I believe there is enough evidence that football is an extremely dangerous sport for the players [“$730G for helmet safety,” News, Nov. 20].

Quintiles Injury Surveillance and Analytics, which works with the NFL to track injuries, said that there were 271 concussions in the NFL in 2015, but diagnosed concussions rose by nearly 32 percent in the NFL this season! I imagine the NFL uses the best helmets.

If people want to play this sport in local schools, it should be a game of tag, not tackle. The schools are only fooling themselves by spending thousands of dollars on better helmets. Why should taxpayers pay for these helmets so that kids can play a sport that is unsafe?

There are much more beneficial sports that are ignored by schools, but shouldn’t be.
