Regarding "Proposed 140-acre development criticized" [News, March 26], about a retail and residential project for Holbrook, how many "hubs" do we need?

Developers and politicians tell us that our current suburban lifestyle is incorrect and unsustainable. First, a hub is proposed by the Ronkonkoma train station. Now, it's another 140-acre site on the other side of town, boxing in Main Street. Did we not lament over the disappearing downtowns in the 1970s and 1980s?

Why, besides money, is there a need to make Long Island a sixth borough? Foreclosed homes all over the Island are sitting empty and ready to be rehabbed.

There is a point that communities reach maximum saturation. Overcrowded roads and overcrowded trains are just a couple glaring examples of this.

My wife and I commute very far to put our children in a good environment to thrive. If where we live has the same problems of where we commute to, what's the point of living here?

Don't let political correctness convince us that "suburb" is a dirty word. Great schools, safe streets and a little bit of space are never bad.
