College students from the Long Island Immigrant Students Association rally in support of New York's Dream Act at Nassau County Community College. The Dream Act is legislation that would allow undocumented immigrants to receive financial aid from the state which today is not available to them. (Feb. 16, 2012) Credit: Jessica Earnshaw

Regarding "Immigrants lobby pol over Dream Act" [News, March 29], you reported that undocumented immigrants want tuition aid for college. So far, they have been denied.

Bully for Sen. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) for opposing this idea, which would free up state-funded tuition assistance, allow the use of tax-deferred accounts for college savings and permit privately funded scholarships for thousands of immigrant students who reside in the state illegally.

Long Islanders are paying among the highest taxes in the country, and middle-class families work two jobs to afford higher education for their own children.

Everyone wants to come here for a better life, but where is the patriotism and love of country? You can serve in the armed forces and show your appreciation that living in a free country affords you.
