Why not have a conical grill wide enough to take in needed air for the jet engine, but strong enough to deflect a large bird ["Bird-strike prevention vital," Editorial, May 3]?
This simple solution would help minimize danger from the more than 499 bird strikes reported in 12 months at the area's three major airports.
The bird population has increased, and that's a good thing. I'm glad birds are not "suicidal." To ignore a simple piece of equipment on the jet engine that could save lives seems to me possibly suicidal.
