The recent closing of the upscale Riverhead Project restaurant in Riverhead has saddened me, but it was not unexpected ["Closings," exploreLI, Sept. 18].

When this restaurant opened, I was very excited and hopeful, but I also questioned the business model for an upscale fine dining establishment on Main Street. The lackluster economic recovery was another concern. I believe in the renaissance of Riverhead and purchased a home near downtown four years ago. My spouse and I have no regrets about that decision.

Riverhead Project owner Dennis McDermott invested in Riverhead, a decision that was both admirable and risky. He should be commended for his efforts. Riverhead will miss his presence, good food and good will.

I sincerely hope that this is just a temporary step back for Riverhead's renaissance. I hope we will soon take two steps forward to enjoy the type of revitalization that other communities, such as Patchogue, have achieved.
