Letter: Geese a hazard on playground, too

Prevention of bird strikes is vital to the safety of people flying out of New York airports ["Bird-strike prevention vital," Editorial, May 3]. Reduction may help somewhat, but elimination is a guarantee.
If the U.S. Department of Agriculture rids us of just some, instead of all, Canada geese, the cycle will never be broken. They reproduce too quickly to end the problem.
These wild birds, which are protected by federal law, are a nuisance and must be a health hazard. All parks and ballfields where our children play are covered in goose droppings. Have health officials studied the bacteria that we are exposed to from these droppings?
These birds are not a risk only to our air safety.
