Letter: Generosity at Christmas
I have to applaud the person who gave $5,000 to make up for the theft of the unfortunate North Bellport family's presents ["Yes! There is a Santa Claus," News, Dec. 21].
That, and the people who paid off layaway accounts for strangers ["LI's Secret Santa," News, Dec. 19], display the Christmas spirit. Expensive presents do a lot to help the economy, but we could use emotional help also at this year's end.
It seemed that only in traditional seasonal songs did you hear about people being especially kind for the holidays. In these times, that concept is rarely exhibited. Christmas has too little of the spirit that it used to have.
That's too bad, because we could use the emotional rejuvenation after another year of ups and downs.
