Whose not-so-brilliant idea was it to put an upscale “specialty gourmet grocer” next to a “a federally subsidized independent-living community for low-income seniors and people with disabilities” [“Grocer, owner have deal,” News, Dec. 31]?

A spokesman for Southdown Market said, “Many details still need to be worked out, but the community should be happy.” I really doubt the residents of Paumanack Village, who survive on limited incomes, will be “happy” to pay upscale prices for their basic food items.
