Many of my dog-owning friends and I applaud Town of Hempstead Supervisor Anthony Santino for providing a long-awaited dog park [“Newbridge Park gets town’s first dog park,” News, Sept. 21].

This park is a giant step toward ending antiquated laws that segregate dogs from society. Providing a safe place for dogs to interact with other dogs and people will make sure our canine companions are happy, healthy members of our communities.

The park is clean and well-equipped. On the day I visited, dogs of all sizes and temperaments were enjoying the park and interacting positively. Thank you to Anthony Santino for following through on his commitment to bring our town parks into a new era.
