Letter: Hempstead, open unemployment office
I applaud efforts made by the Hempstead Town Board and other elected officials as they continue to protect residents from awful dangers of overdevelopment ["Hostile to new business," Editorial, March 27].
Thank goodness the dilapidated, in-need-of-repair parking lot that is home to the long-empty Rita's Italian Ice will not be getting a makeover and a new tenant.
So what establishment would Hempstead officials like to see? Perhaps a new local unemployment office would meet with their approval.
The bottom line is that by blocking all projects such as this, and the pedestrian-friendly Coliseum Lighthouse project, it's clear that job-creation and new revenue will remain low priorities in Hempstead for many years to come.
