Letter: Higher MPG rules mean weaker cars
A letter writer misses the days of stronger cars and blames manufacturers [“Make cars stronger,” March 20].
The federal government mandates that cars get a certain minimum miles per gallon. To get better gas mileage, cars are made lighter and, therefore, less safe.
Blame should go to the ubiquitous federal government, not the manufacturers. Manufacturers are just following the rules set by Washington.
