It's nice to know that our elected officials have not raised taxes. Instead they have raised user fees. The Town of Brookhaven now charges $5 a day -- or $25 a week -- to use their parking lots that were free to residents last year. The town has also raised the boat ramp fees to $60 for the season, or $25 a day.

Suffolk County is charging a $4 fee to park at some of the beaches after 5 p.m. ["Tide of opposition to parking fee," News, June 26].

I see this practice as the same as raising taxes, it's just more selective as to who gets the increase.
