Letter: Hurt by cuts in Nassau bus service

As News 12 has reported, NICE Bus recently raised rates to $2.75 in an effort to close a $7.5 million budget deficit. Credit: Barry Sloan
Living in Merrick and having the N51 bus route discontinued as of Jan. 17 put many at a disadvantage [“No ticket to ride,” News, Jan. 11]. How can Nassau Inter-County Express take away a service and not offer an alternative? The N51 runs basically hourly, so one could get a bus to Nassau Community College during off-peak hours, as well as service through the heart of Merrick during the weekends.
Nassau County and NICE definitely discriminate against those who don’t drive.
