Letter: Keep LIPA on track for green energy

How ever the Long Island Power Authority ends up being restructured for the "benefit" of Long Island residents, we must insist that the new structure protect and extend the programs LIPA has started for efficient use of electricity and moving toward renewably generated electricity ["Back to the future for LIPA?," Editorial, May 5].
Long Island must be a leader in rapidly moving away from fossil fuels that cause climate change. Superstorm Sandy was just one result of a changing climate, and we didn't like it one bit.
The technology is available and in widespread use in Europe. What we need is the will to adopt it. Let's make sure that does not get lost as the LIPA deck is shuffled.
