Letter: Let voters decideon lawmakers’ pay

Good article [“Pols vote for raise,” News, Dec. 8]. What is most disgusting is that most members of the Nassau legislature ran less than five weeks earlier for a job that pays $39,500. The raise affects legislators in office in the 2018 term. However, if $39,500 isn’t good enough, the current legislators should not have put their names on the ballot.
The proper format to raise salaries would be by referendum held simultaneously with the election. Then candidates could choose to run on advocating for doubling their pay or not.
