Letter: LI needs water management plan

How much do you know about the water you use every day? Most of us really don't think about the fact that it comes only from the ground.
The article "Leaky water policy will hurt the Island" [Opinion, April 18] should make us do more than pause to think about it. We need to solve our water problems now rather than wait for a real crisis to occur.
Most of the rest of New York State has a management plan; Long Island does not. There are options available. What Long Island needs is stakeholder groups to have a hand in managing and protecting the water supply and planning for the future. This is why a water management agency is important for Long Island. Think about it the next time you wash your hands and then ask your local politicians what they are doing about it. If not now, then when?
