Long Island has little snow and few mountains, so I am surprised to see so many sport utility vehicles on Long Island ["LI loves SUVs," Business, Jan. 29]. In Florida, hybrids seem much more popular. Toyota Priuses are a very common sight down in the Sunshine State.
An avid walker, I was almost run over by a black SUV that wanted to turn right on red. I call this road bullying.
If we are ever to to become energy independent, drivers on Long Island will have to do their part. Let's all walk more and burn calories instead of burning foreign oil. Nobody wants to be dependent on foreign oil, with huge trade deficits and kids dispatched to war to defend the oil wells in the Middle East.
