How sad is it that hundreds of Long Island Rail Road retirees chose to gamble away their financial security out of greed, siphoning $2 million a month from federal funds ["LIRR plan on fraud," News, July 3].

As a goodwill gesture, the railroad should cut fares right now to restore faith in the system.
