I can’t agree more with “LIRR fares growing too expensive” [Letters, Dec. 18], but I would accept the higher expense if we knew we were going to get better service. We don’t.

Service is just worse, worse, worse. Every day there are signal problems, delays getting into Penn Station, escalators not running. The bathrooms have no air conditioning, and four or five stalls are out of service every day. Things are just bad.

What’s even worse is when you have to change trains in Jamaica, and they never tell you what track your new train will be on. You might run upstairs to get to one track and then find out it’s another one. The Long Island Rail Road is so behind the times.
