Letter: Local governments, local businesses

I agree with "Outsourcing gone too far" [Letters, April 11]. As a former owner -- 25-plus years -- in the home improvement and contracting business, it is gut-wrenching to see bids for municipal work being lost to out-of-town companies.
I understand the theory of lowest bid, but there should be a sliding-scale credit -- considering the cost of living, and wage and business regulations -- to allow local companies to successfully bid on public projects. Those costs and regulations made me close my doors.
