Bicyclists in Long Beach, and there are many, are thrilled that there are newly painted bicycle icons adjacent to curbs [“City adds ‘clean team’ fee,” News, June 9].

While this is fantastic, and alerts motorists to look for bikers, I do have one question: Why on Earth weren’t lines painted as well, clearly marking safety zones that might prevent bicyclists from veering outside them? Did the city run out of paint?
