Letter: Loss of buses hurts riders, environment

I’m very disappointed with the decision of all parties involved to cut 11 Nassau Inter-County Express bus routes [“NICE urged to restore 11 cut routes,” News, Jan. 20].
I fully understand the financial impact to the taxpayers in Nassau County to fund the lines that affect 2,000 people, at least. But these 2,000 riders will no longer have this form of transportation, and many take the bus to Long Island Rail Road stations.
Many communities east of Uniondale will no longer have the north-south buses available. That is 10 miles of Nassau County we are talking about.
Are we all prepared for the additional vehicle traffic or parking problems? We should be using greener alternatives in our lives.
