Letter: MacArthur Airport's high prices

Prices matter, so I am not surprised by Long Island MacArthur Airport's troubles ["Steep decline in flights," News, June 2].
I used to fly Southwest Airlines out of MacArthur, when it was truly a competitively priced carrier. I continue to check its prices before booking flights. For the past 10 years, however, Southwest's prices have been routinely more expensive than other metropolitan area airlines.
On average, for business and pleasure, I fly domestically once a month. I would prefer to "buy Long Island," and MacArthur does offer a comfortable, convenient experience.
I understand that other factors are involved in MacArthur's decline in departures. But the noncompetitive pricing certainly doesn't help.
