Letter: Mangano presided over Islanders exit

It was fitting that Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano's complaint regarding negative coverage of the new Nassau Coliseum was published on the same day that Newsday ran photos of a payloader digging up the Islanders' home ice for the final time ["Coliseum coverage misses the positives," Letters, May 6].
Not only did Mangano help pull the plug on the Islanders era on Long Island, but he also did his best to shift the burden from his shoulders to those of county residents via a referendum vote that was doomed to fail.
Now he's trying to convince us that it's OK that a huge part of Long Island culture has left for Brooklyn, because the new arena is designed to put money into our pockets. Hilarious.
The success of Nassau's new arena supposedly hinges on the arrival of a minor-league hockey team to serve as the anchor tenant. A ridiculous plan like that could only be drawn up and celebrated by a minor-league administration and executive.
