Letter: Methadone shouldn’t be indefinite
I agree 100 percent with the letter “Methadone shouldn’t be open-ended” [May 8]. A relative of mine has been on a methadone program for more than 15 years and travels to downtown Brooklyn three times a week for doses. No attempt has been made in all that time to get him into a rehabilitation program to wean him off of it.
He doesn’t receive disability payments, but he and others could be more productive members of society and provide for themselves if they could get off methadone.
