A Quinnipiac Poll indicates that there is overwhelming support for an increase in the minimum wage ["New Yorkers back minimum wage hike," News, April 5]. I agree with Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) that raising the minimum wage in New York would be a "job killer."

Small businesses are the largest creator of jobs in this country, and small business owners live in reality, not feel-good proposals. Increased wages would cause a domino effect on business owners' other mandated costs. Raising the minimum wage is the wrong approach to revitalizing this failing economy.

What people are really looking for are more jobs, and government has to stop mandating additional burdens, which prevent this from happening.
