Letter: Most Nassau cops are 'great'

I am a Nassau County police officer and have proudly served for almost 20 years ["New Nassau commissioner: Let me fire bad cops," News, May 6]. I have enjoyed my time serving the residents of Nassau County. I take pride in knowing I have helped in many different ways.
It may have been at an auto accident scene with a first-time driver, calming the driver down. Or it may have been consoling a resident who arrived home to find her mother deceased on the floor. Even sitting with a person who's waiting to hear the fate of a sick child, and almost crying with him when he hears that she will be all right.
There are many faces to the Nassau County Police Department; the majority are great. They are the ones that run into gunfire, chase bad guys and breathe life into a dying baby. They hold the hand of the scared, lonely woman who calls 911 just to have an officer come by to make her feel safe.
I find the constant barrage of negative press insulting. There are many more wonderful, dedicated officers on the Nassau County Police Department than there are bad.
