Newsday's editorial "Sloppy records hurt taxpayers" [July 6] was right on target, but it didn't go far enough.

When you mentioned a Management 101 class, you also should have recommended a class in internal control as well as Accounting 101.

It seems that Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos is more interested in publicity for his audits, after the fact, than in instituting internal controls that would prevent the problems before they happen.
