Not prominent in the article “Open for business” [News, May 31] was that the public was assured the Tappen Beach venue would be open with a temporary liquor license for Memorial Day weekend — and it wasn’t.

We went there with two other couples on Saturday night, only to find a sign with “BYOB” and “Cash Only” signs over the empty bar. My understanding is that Carlyle Caterers Management Corp. got the emergency contract in part because of its presence at other Long Island venues and the promise to deliver for a quick opening.
