No excuse for disrespect

I read Cathy Young’s column “Amy Schumer can’t take a joke” [Opinion, Jan. 21]. There’s a difference between Schumer the comedian poking fun at herself, albeit in a raunchy way, and a “17-year-old film critic” or anyone of any age tweeting an irreverent statement about Schumer the person.

One may or may not appreciate her kind of humor, and if not, you may choose not to watch her perform. However, although she is a public figure, she is deserving of the same respect as anyone else.

The fact that the 17-year-old had met the comedian did not afford him any special license to tweet as he did.
