Letter: Not careful enough of motorcycles

Newsday's story states that the driver of the car that killed motorcyclist Francis Stanuch was not charged ["Motorcyclist killed in collision with car," News, July 10].
The fact that he was not charged is a travesty. It perpetuates the idea that motorcyclists are second-class vehicle operators who do not have the same rights as people driving four-wheel or larger vehicles.
I do not imply the car driver did this deliberately. I am certain that he feels terrible. Still, there should at least be evidence enough that he made an unsafe left turn, and he should at least have been charged with that. Anything less is a slap in the face to those of us who are law-abiding motorcycle enthusiasts.
