Letter: Not true that Nassau 'loses'

I challenge columnist Dan Janison's premise in "Nassau layoffs: Everyone loses" [News, Jan. 2]. His predictable political narrative chose to focus only on the county employees who were laid off, and Civil Service Employees Association president Jerry Laricchiuta's reprehensible rantings, rather than the overtaxed Nassau County taxpayers.
The alternative to county layoffs is increasing property taxes or reinstituting the home energy levy. Until the economy recovers, unemployment drops, and Nassau government finally addresses the tax certiorari responsible for bleeding hundreds of millions of dollars annually, I conclude that Nassau County taxpayers are winning by just holding taxes flat.
