I read with interest the analysis of President Barack Obama's campaign to tout the Osama bin Laden mission ["Obama defends highlighting of bin Laden raid," News, May 1].

My response is, in this era of the Citizens United decision on political speech, Karl Rove and every billionaire's super PAC flooding the airwaves with negative ads, often based on exaggeration and lies, this is nothing more than a candidate using the facts to his benefit.

I distinctly remember the debates during the 2008 election in which candidate Obama stated that if he were president he would hunt down and kill bin Laden. Mission accomplished.

I also remember there were terror alerts almost daily in the run-up to the 2004 presidential election, seemingly to make people believe that they has to re-elect Bush, their "war president." The president has every right to highlight his accomplishments.
