Officer put himself in harm’s way

I would like to acknowledge Police Officer Joseph Verdi [“Cop shields traffic, takes crash impact,” News, Jan. 29]. This was an act of bravery.

When Verdi received a call that a vehicle, driven by an alleged drunken driver, was heading the wrong way on Sunrise Highway, he did what he swore to do when he took an oath to protect us: put himself in harm’s way.

This officer, with the help of an alert and concerned citizen calling 911, likely saved lives.
