The recent shooting of five students by another at an Ohio high school is a real tragedy ["School victims mourned," News, March 1]. How did this student manage to bring a gun into the school?

There should have been a way to prevent this. Our schools are supposed to be safe, secure places for learning. When an incident like this one happens, people begin once again to doubt the safety of school buildings.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the families of those killed and wounded, as well as to the family of the shooter. What has happened to respect for our fellow humans and respect for life? Our values and morals seem to have gone by the wayside. It is indeed very sad.
