I was taken aback by the letter written by Jim Brown, chairman of the Green Party of Nassau County [“Penalties against a boycott are wrong,” March 14].

He criticizes the State Legislature for considering a law that would deny state contracts to people, corporations and nonprofit organizations that advocate or engage in a boycott of Israeli goods and services. He believes that we should not penalize those who boycott.

However, I believe that if you boycott, you run the risk of the consequences of your actions. The State Legislature wants to boycott the boycotters! If it is right for those organizations to boycott Israel, why is it not right for New York to boycott those organizations?

I strongly support the legislation and commend State Sen. Jack Martins (R-Old Westbury), a co-sponsor of the legislation.
