Letter: Overtime inflates public pensions

People deserve a fair salary for the work performed [“Police OT on the rise,” News, Dec. 7].
However, the story about police overtime pay in Nassau County notes that it’s a practice to give large amounts of overtime to those on the force in the last three years of their working careers. This overtime is then included in their pension calculations.
Overtime pay should not be included in computing retirement benefits.
